Let’s talk delftware

Hello all pottery enthusiasts!

My fascination with pottery started when i was very young. A relative was a collector and it sort of rubbed off on me.

I actually started collecting pottery at the ripe old age of 15. I was always on the look out for better quality and rarer items and I would self fund purchases by selling my existing pieces. Doing this enabled me, overtime, to acquire more expensive, rarer, and better quality pottery.

I’ve always loved the searching ,investigating & buying and then finally receiving my new find! I spend many hours every day cross referencing , reading and researching, and my love and passion of pottery goes hand in hand with my love of history.

My video this week and topic of conversation is delftware.

English delftware flourished in the London area in the early 1600’s and before that in Antwerp and Italy. English delft is really a cheap mans take on Chinese porcelain , which circa 1620 no one new how to copy as it was such a closely guarded secret , so here in the UK and the Netherlands it was copied using a pottery base and tin glazed decoration. With an oriental theme and an English feel it produced an iconic pottery type plate in a world of its own. Now 300-400 years down the line, English and Dutch delftware falls into a category all on its own with many pieces creating record breaking prices.

There’s pieces available for all budgets , many plates are under the £100 bracket ,but if your looking for a blue dash London charger featuring Charles II  expect to pay £80,000-£120,000 in todays prices as shown in the example below.

I search worldwide to find new, rare and unrecorded items new to the market and I hope my weekly blog will share some light onto the current market and trends.

I’m always here to help anyone who looks to further their knowledge so please do not hesitate to get in touch.  Have a great weekend, Happy hunting, and until next week!
